  15.     serious, system-wide problems that may require you to
  16.     reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot
  17.     guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of
  18.     Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own

  23. You can force the Windows NT screen saver to start during logon if no
  24. user logs on immediately. To do this, you need to modify the Registry
  25. by following these steps:

  27. 1. Start Registry Editor (REGEDT32.EXE) and select the HKEY_USERS
  28.    hive.
  29.  
  30. 2. Go to the following subkey:
  31.  
  32.       \DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
  33.  
  34. 3. From the parameter list, select ScreenSaveActive.
  35.  
  36. 4. From the Edit menu, choose String.
  37.  
  38. 5. In the String field, change the value from 0 to 1 and choose OK.

  40. 6. From the parameter list, select SCRNSAVE.EXE.
  41.  
  42. 7. From the Edit menu, choose String.

  44. 8. Enter the filename of the screen saver you want to use. For
  45.    example: SSMYST.SCR, SCRNSAVE.SCR, SSBEZIER.SCR, SSMARQUE.SCR, or
  46.    SSTARS.SCR.

  48. 9. Similarly, edit the String field for the ScreenSaveTimeOut
  49.    parameter, and enter the time (in seconds) you want the screen
  50.    saver to wait before activating.
  51.  
  52. After you complete these changes and shut down Windows NT, the screen
  53. saver should activate if a user fails to log on within the time
  54. specified by ScreenSaveTimeOut.
